De psychoanalyse is geworteld in een traditioneel mannelijk denkkader. Freud onderzocht de psyche vanuit zijn positie als man van de 19e eeuw. Zijn vraag: “Was will das Weib?” liet hij grotendeels aan latere generaties over. Lange tijd ging de aandacht vooral naar de vrouw en de moeder, naar de vroege hechting, de primaire zorg en de binnenwereld van moeder en kind. Vaderschap wordt daarbij vaker beschreven als functie — de symbolische vader, de wet, de derde — dan als relationele figuur met een eigen emotionele dynamiek. Tijdens de Summer University 2026 gaan we ‘Op de man af’: de belevingswereld van de man, vader en zoon.
